Can United halt Chiefs’ run?

2014-02-11 14:07

Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership will be under threat when they visit Maritzburg United this evening.

Amakhosi will be looking for their 10th consecutive victory in the league at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg. Kickoff is at 7pm.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter is facing a selection dilemma because he will have to do without Kgotso Moleko, who has been suspended.

The right back was sent off during Chiefs’ 1-0 victory over SuperSport United last week. But Amakhosi’s new recruit Katlego Mphela could make his debut after being named in the travelling 18.

Chiefs want to extend their lead at the top, and third-from-the-bottom United want to get away from the relegation zone.

Under new manager Steve Komphela, United won their first game in more than three months when they defeated University of Pretoria last week.

United have always been Chiefs’ nemesis and they would fancy their chances against high-riding Amakhosi, especially playing in front of the expected capacity crowd.

After starting his new job with a victory, Komphela has already said this was the worst time to be facing Chiefs, but that may well motivate his players.

The odds, however, favour Amakhosi registering their 10th successive league victory.
