Celebs make waves on the boat

2011-12-17 19:29

What happens on the boat stays on the boat.

That’s the vow everyone makes when they prepare for some serious debauchery on the yearly Rock The Boat cruise that takes place at the beginning of December.

The MSC Sinfonia set sail to Portuguese Island in Mozambique from Durban last week with a host of schlebs and party animals ready for the cruise known for its non-stop partying.

This year’s cruise was organised by one of clubbing world’s popular lifestyle brands, Hed Kandi.

On the entertainment bill were award-winning hip-hop group Teargas, 5FM DJ tag-team Fresh and Euphonik (accompanied by his girlfriend Bonang Matheba), Sam Cannon who has played in Ibiza and worked with Ministry Of Sound, hip-hop DJs Milkshake and Dimplez, Poppy Ntshongwane, Erica Elle, Liquideep, Locnville, comedian Tumi Morake and many more.

The boat – which features 13 decks – had more than 2 000 people revelling in parties and performances at three pumping clubs and 10 bars.

Everyone, including the usually reserved members of Liquideep, was dancing at some stage. Matheba shed her reserved veneer to join in the pool party along with Roxy Burger, the Survivor Maldives contestant.

Sleeping was clearly not an option for the likes of Dimplez and Fresh, whose sets were in the early hours of the morning until sunrise.

“It was the best fun I’ve had in ages. I would do it all over again. Besides the horrible food, everything else – the music, hospitality, the entertainment and the weather – was great,” says Matheba.

Unlike last year, when people threw furniture – and themselves – overboard there was no unruly behaviour.

The general atmosphere was unadulterated fun and holiday chill.
