Charles and Camilla to arrive in SA today

2011-11-02 07:17

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were expected to arrive in South Africa today for an official five-day visit at the personal invitation of President Jacob Zuma.

Prince Charles and Camilla were due to touch down at the Waterkloof airbase in Pretoria in the early evening, where they would walk down the aircraft stairs and through a Guard of Honour.

The pair would visit Pretoria, Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal and Cape Town before jetting off to Tanzania on November 6.

The last time the Prince of Wales was in South Africa on an official visit was 1997 with Prince Harry. This will be the Duchess of Cornwell’s first official visit to South Africa.

Last week, the British High Commission said the visit would focus on trade and investment promotion to support Britain’s economic recovery, employment opportunities, education and practical support for disadvantaged young people.

It would also focus on the WWF’s work to protect endangered species and fragile ecosystems.

Prince Charles recently became the president of WWF UK.

The pair would also visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation to view the legacy of the country’s first democratic president.
