Chiefs cancels tour of Lesotho

2013-01-12 13:52

Kaizer Chiefs planned tour of Lesotho has been cancelled.

The club’s football manager Bobby Motaung told City Press that their trip, which was planned for later this month, has been “shelved”.

“We are no longer going to Lesotho; we have shelved that trip due to some logistical challenges,” said Motaung.

“We are now taking our (training) camp to Potchefstroom for two weeks. The team will play some friendly games against PSL sides and some other lower league sides behind closed doors.”

In addition, Amakhosi issued a statement on their official website – attributed to communications manager Vina Maphosa – to apologise given that the envisaged tour had fuelled interest locally and in Lesotho.

What the statement says:

“The visit to The Mountain Kingdom was scheduled to take place as part of the club’s preparations for the restart of the 2012/13 season. It came to the club’s attention that some logistical aspects pertaining to the trip will not allow for the full accomplishment of the mission.

“The Club apologised profusely for any inconvenience caused. We are aware that the supporters were looking forward to welcome us and hence we will look at future possibilities to land in Maseru.”
