Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has promised the team’s supporters this will be their last season without silverware. So confident is Khune that he has promised to deliver all the trophies on offer.

He said it was disappointing to finish last season without any silverware and said he felt for the supporters.

However, he said the squad was determined to make a success of the coming season after the disappointments of the last campaign.

“This season we are aiming for a clean sweep of all the major trophies. We have five or six trophies to play for and there is no way we can finish the season with nothing. I think it’s very important as a team to believe in each other. We are hungrier than before,” said Khune.

Chiefs will host Mpumalanga Black Aces in the MTN8 quarterfinals at the FNB Stadium on Sunday and Khune said their aim was to instil fear in all their opponents.

He said they wanted to avenge the Aces defeat they suffered at the same stadium last season, which derailed their plans to win the league title.

“We have to be ruthless when we play at home and set the tone for the whole season, so all the teams know it is our home ground and we are untouchable there. We made it easy last season for teams coming to the FNB Stadium. We have to change that this season.”

He said the team had learnt a lot from last season’s campaign in which the wheels came off towards the end.

“From last season we have learnt to be consistent. We lost concentration when players suffered injuries and suspensions also cost us. But it was a good lesson as we have brought in new players to solidify our squad.”

Chiefs will open their league campaign away to Free State Stars next weekend.
