Child murdered in Freedom Square

2010-08-04 13:17

Three people, including a one-year-old boy, have been shot dead in Freedom Square in Bloemfontein today.

Police Captain Elsa Gerber said: “I can only say what we found three bodies and a gun. We don’t have any other information yet.”

The child Ongile Modisenyane was to be picked up for school by his father January Mosala just before 7am.

The boy was staying with his mother, Grace Modisenyane, when Mosala and his sister Lerato Mosala (21) went to pick him up.

The details were still unclear, but apparently when they arrived at the house the 32-year-old mother had a firearm.

The father ran to the Kopanong Police Station to report this and police followed him to the house.

Upon their arrival they found Lerato Mosala shot and lying on the road in front of the neighbour’s house.

“She was still alive but died shortly afterwards.”

The mother was found at the doorway of the house with a bullet wound to her mouth and a pistol lying next to her.

When police entered the house they found Ongile dead, with a bullet wound to his chest.

Police said family members were in shock.

“As soon as they are calm enough we might get more information,” Gerber said.

Two cases of murder and one inquest docket were opened.
