Condolence books have been opened for former president Thabo Mbeki’s mother, Epainette, says the Thabo Mbeki Foundation.

The books will be available in Pretoria and Joburg.

In Joburg, the books will be at the Mbeki Foundation at 6-10 Riviera Road in Killarney.

In Pretoria, the books will be open during office hours at the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute in 263 Nana Sita Street.

They will also be available at the University of South Africa Kgorong Building in Preller Street, Muckleneuk Ridge.

The foundation said people could also leave messages of condolences in the Eastern Cape at the Mbeki home in Ngcingwana, Idutywa, from 5pm today.

Epainette Mbeki died in the Life St Dominic’s Hospital in East London, Eastern Cape, aged 98 on Saturday morning.

She had suffered from a heart problem and chest infection and had been in hospital since May 25.

She was the wife of the late African National Congress and SA Communist Party stalwart Govan Mbeki.
