Condolences to family of ‘loyal and humble public servant’ Michael Coetzee

2014-06-14 16:13

Michael Coetzee (54), the secretary of Parliament who died last night after a long battle with cancer, was at work as recently as a week ago.

The ANC and DA have sympathised with the family of this “loyal and humble public servant”.

ANC chief whip Stone Sizane said of Coetzee: “He was a very experienced and dedicated administrator. He was also a passionate leader.”

Johan Steenhuisen, DA chief whip, said Coetzee served Parliament for longer than a decade. He was an anti-apartheid activist and community organiser.

“Parliament was enriched by his contributions and he will be missed,” said Steenhuisen.

Coetzee had extensive experience of the administration of legislatures. Before he started working at Parliament in 2002, he was secretary of the Gauteng legislature.

Parliament, in a release, expressed sympathy for Coetzee’s wife, Bridgette, his son, Matthew, his mother and other family members.
