Consumer head court bid dismissed

An interdict by national consumer commission head to prevent Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies from terminating her contract was dismissed in the Johannesburg Labour Court.

Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi approached the court after Davies sent her a letter on May 21 informing her of his intentions not to renew her contract when it expired on September 3, the Saturday Star reported.

Her application was dismissed with costs by the court yesterday.

Judge HS Cele, in dismissing the application, said Davies had complied with the government’s labour procedure and it was inappropriate for Mohlala-Mulaudzi to complain before a new candidate had been appointed.

“I can’t believe (Judge HS) Cele failed to see that letter. He (Davies) states clearly that he won’t renew my contract,” Mohlala-Mulaudzi told the newspaper.

She said she would appeal and apply for her job.

Mohlala-Mulaudzi first took Davies’ department to court in May when her position was advertised, stating her employment agreement was violated as she was not consulted before the advertisement was placed.

The Labour Court ruled on May 18 that Mohlala-Mulaudzi’s contract would end in September.
