You have until November 16 to make your way to The Empty Shop in Sandton City.

It’s a Brazilian concept, in South Africa for the first time, which allows the public to donate clothes they no longer use. The only catch is that the clothes need to be in very good condition.

In turn, The Empty Shop is filled with each day’s donation, and the clothes are displayed and styled on mannequins in the store before being taken down at the end of the business day.

The store is then refilled the next day with the day’s donations, and every day for the store’s duration. Although the clothes are displayed as though they were in a second-hand shop, enticed would-be customers are not allowed to buy the clothes.

This is because all the clothes brought into The Empty Shop are donated to Hospice Wits, the shop’s chosen beneficiary. If there’s an item you desperately want to buy, you might do so from one of the Hospice second-hand shops once The Empty Shop has closed and the clothes are distributed. Proceeds then go back to Hospice.

The Empty Shop is open from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm on Fridays and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays. For more info, visit
