Cops arrested for tuck shop extortion

2013-07-16 15:05

Two police officers and an Ethiopian have been arrested in Polokwane for alleged extortion.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said today they were arrested by the Hawks when they were caught with R6 500 allegedly extorted from Ethiopians who owned tuck shops in Witpoort.

Since 2011, they had allegedly collected R500 a month from each tuck shop, claiming it was for rent.

“A successful trap was set for the trio and they were caught in the act,” said Mulaudzi.

The men would appear soon in the Phalala Magistrates’ Court.
