Cops confident of case against Jub Jub

2010-07-30 11:21

The murder case of Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala was this morning postponed to October 18.

The two accused appeared briefly in the Protea Magistrates’ Court, where they are facing four counts of murder, two of attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

There was a minimum police presence outside the court building and learners from schools in Soweto did not come en masse unlike on previous court appearances by the two accused.

The two were driving in Mdlalose street between Protea Glen and Protea North when their Mini Coopers crashed into a group of schoolchildren, killing four and injuring another two in March.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said police had completed their investigations and the prosecution and defence had agreed on the trial date.

Regarding earlier fears that lawyers for the two accused would challenge the charges of murder Mhaga added: “We are confident that all charges against the accused will remain as they are.”
