Cosafa U-20 semifinalists upbeat

The spotlight will be cast on the Zambian Under-20 side when the last-four stage of the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Championships gets under way today.

History beckons for Zambia as they are just two matches away from attaining a treble of the annual southern region title.

The junior Chipolopolo face hosts Botswana while Malawi has a date with Angola in the other semifinal meeting pencilled in for Molepolole Sports Complex – a 40km drive from Gaborone.

Addressing the media at the pre-semi conference at the Gaborone Sun, Botswana coach China Matlhaku said their objective was not to win the tournament as they were in the building process of Botswana’s junior national teams.

“We are a team of young boys and we are using this platform to build the team that will campaign in the CAF African Youth Championships qualifiers next year,” said Matlhaku.

The junior Chipolopolo coach Keagan Mumba said pressure will be on Botswana to impress before their home support.

“We are not under pressure at all. We came to this tournament prepared and we are fully focused for our next game.”

Zambia hammered South Africa 5-1 on Tuesday en route to the final.

Mumba said the comment his Amajita counterpart Solly Luvhengo made after their game has not derailed their ambitions.
