Cosatu fails to meet Numsa ultimatum, court action could follow

2013-08-31 12:15

National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) general secretary Irvin Jim says Cosatu failed to respond to the union's letter calling for the lifting of Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi's suspension.

The union had given Cosatu until the end of business yesterday to respond to the letter, or face legal action.

This morning, Jim told City Press that Numsa's lawyers would decide on the next step, and did not rule out going to court over the Vavi matter.

The federation's leadership suspended Vavi for bringing Cosatu into disrepute after he had sex with a junior employee of the federation at its Braamfontein headquarters.
