Our man Siyabonga Sithole lands in Durban ahead of boarding a ship with a clutch of celebs living it up on the Portuguese Islands.

There will be parties aboard this ship, of that you can be sure. We hadn’t even set sail when we enjoyed our first one, at the swanky Elangeni Hotel in Durban on Sunday night.

And at these parties will be more celebs than you can shake a deckchair at.

Our week-long cruise to the Portuguese islands off the coast of Mozambique began with a dinner for the 60 couples who won a place on board.

Metro FM and TV personality Pearl Thusi winner Puleng Lekganyane showed face at the Tropika pre-cruise experience held at Elangeni Hotel in Durban. Picture: Lucky Nxumalo

They were joined by hosts for the night Pearl Thusi and Amon Mokoena; Ismail Abrahams; Sophie Ndaba; Lalla Hirayama and boyfriend, Chris Nkosi; TT Mbha; and singer and actress Tumi Masemola, who came sans hubby Mandla Ngcongwane. Actress and casting director Bubu Mazibuko, who these days goes by the name of Camille, was also among the celebrity guests. There were roars of laughter when she eventually acknowledged her new name.

The ship was en route to the Portuguese Islands in Mozambique.

The  extensive radio campaign saw Tropika lovers being whisked away on an all expenses week-long paid for trip  on board  the luxurious MSC cruise alongside their favourite celebrities and Metro FM personalities.

Most of the winners of Tropika’s competition were  married couples who have not had luxurious honeymoons and are going on a cruise for the first time, and the excitement in Durban was palpable, as they danced the night away before making the cruise the following morning.

But even so, by the time DJ Amon took to the decks to entertain the crowd, half the room was empty as drinks started to dry up and a cash bar policy was instituted. Not even a twerking Pearl Thusi could keep guests away from their hotel rooms for their last night of sleep on dry land
