Customer finally gains access to laptop

2010-02-20 08:55

RETAILER Joshua Doore has finally released a laptop computer

belonging to one of its customers. The retailer had kept it for four

months.

Ndileka Mavuso had been using the laptop for his home office and

also to run his internet café.

“This computer means everything to me. With the profits I make, I

am able to make ends meet and to pay my monthly instalment.

“It was not fair for the store to have kept the laptop for so

long.

“I am just grateful to Hotline for all the assistance,” said

Mavuso.

He complained to Hotline about how Joshua Doore had left him

stranded.

In February 2008, Mavuso bought a Proline laptop on hire purchase

from the Green Acres branch of the store in Port Elizabeth.

The total price for the purchase was R9?711 and He agreed to make

monthly repayments of R300 over 18 months.

Joshua Doore charged him an interest of 31.57% and Mavuso made

regular payments on the account.

In November last year, the power switch of the laptop became

faulty.

Mavuso took it back to Joshua Doore and it was booked in for

repairs.

He was advised to collect it two weeks later but when He returned

to the store He was told that the repairs had not been done.

A consultant said the repairs were being carried out at a repair

centre in Johannesburg and advised Mavuso to call the store a week later. Mavuso

paid several visits to the store between November and last month with the store

continuing to make empty promises.

After contacting Hotline the dispute was resolved in less than a

week.

Grant Whitfield, general manager for customer and legal services

for the JD Group – the parent company for Joshua Doore, said he regretted that

it took several months to resolve the complaint.

Whitfield offered Mavuso a replacement laptop which he collected on

Monday.
