DA wins WCape by-elections

2010-03-25 12:59

THE Democratic Alliance has taken a seat from the ANC in one of two

by-election wins in Western Cape municipalities.

DA leader Helen Zille said today the party had recorded “emphatic”

victories in the Breede Valley and Theewaterskloof municipalities.

In Breede Valley the DA more than tripled its support to take the

seat from the ANC, while in Theewaterskloof the DA kept its seat with 82 percent

of the votes.

“Last night’s results bode well for next year’s local government

elections, where the DA will aim to govern in an increasing number of towns and

cities across South Africa,” Zille said.
