» DA’s 2006 local government election promises:

» Job creation and economic growth by reducing cost of doing business

» Clean and transparent government

» Good service

» Plan and maintain service infrastructure

» More accountability and community involvement in matters of local government

» Rescue inner cities in decline

» Fight crime in urban and rural areas

» Build houses

» Provide free basic services such as water and electricity to those who qualify as indigent

» Lead the fight against HIV/Aids

» Use council buildings and facilities for pension payouts and make council buildings user-friendly for people with disabilities

» Keep councils financially sound.
