Lawyer and former SABC CEO Advocate Dali Mpofu was in a serious but stable condition after being robbed and stabbed in East London,  Eastern Cape police have said.

He was recovering at Life St Dominic’s Hospital in the city, according to unconfirmed reports.

Three independent sources confirmed to City Press this evening that the flamboyant lawyer was attacked at Eastern Beach.

“He was robbed of all his personal belongings and stabbed,” said one source who refused to be named.

SABC News reported that Mpofu was stabbed repeatedly when he was robbed of his cellphone.

Buffalo City Metro spokesperson Keith Ngesi confirmed that a verbal report had been made by a ward councillor of the area where the incident occurred.

Police said Mpofu was attacked in Esplanade Road around 3pm, Sapa reported.

No arrests had been made as yet.

Mpofu represents injured and arrested mine workers at the Marikana Commission of Inquiry hearings in Rustenburg.
