Dead woman may be linked to fraud case

2010-05-18 10:31

Soweto police are investigating whether a dead woman found next to

the Lenasia railway line may be a woman who disappeared after testifying in a

fraud case in 2008.

The woman had testified in a Westonaria court against a man accused

of housing fraud. Her identity is being withheld.

The remains were taken for analysis on Friday after a woodcutter

found a skull inside a ditch in the Waterworks squatter camp.

Investigators found a black skirt and blouse, a check winter

jacket, a pair of boots and some hair.

Warrant officer Mbulaheni Netshivodza warned people not to walk in

that area at night and said police often had to ask couples who parked there for

privacy to move on.

Meanwhile, another body was found in the area on Monday.

Netshivodza said that the male corpse had a swollen face and a

bruise on his back. Police were almost certain that he was thrown from a moving

train.

Netshivodza said police would appreciate any information from the

community.

At least three other bodies have previously been found in the area.
