2012-06-29 14:41

Miss South Africa will not be competing in the 2012 Miss World pageant, with the reasons behind Melinda Bam’s exit from the pageant unknown.

1st Princess, Remona Moodley, posted the following update on her Facebook page yesterday: “Hi all my gorgeous friends:) just to let you know some super exciting news, I will be representing South Africa at Miss World 2012! Dream come true! Xx”

The reigning Miss SA took to Twitter to wish her first princess Remona Moodley good luck at the Miss World pageant, taking place in China on 18 August.

She wrote: “I look forward to my training for MissU & to see Remona realizing her dream as well!”

She also said: “As MissSA I made this decision with due consideration. Pls trust m judgment, it is a well thought through decision maximizing opportunities!(sic)”

Melinda will still be competing in the Miss Universe pageant, due to take place in December.

TVSA reported that Miss SA pageant organisers Sun International have not disclosed the reasons for Melinda’s withdrawal from the competition, simply saying: “It is very personal and we as the licence holders respect her privacy.”
