Dewani to appeal extradition today

2011-12-13 06:58

Honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani is expected to appeal his extradition today.

The Star newspaper said Dewani’s appeal had been set down for today and tomorrow.

According to the UK-based The Guardian, the 31-year-old Dewani was not expected to attend the hearing in the high court in London.

Dewani (31) stands accused of masterminding the killing of his bride, Anni, in Khayelitsha in Cape Town last November.

The couple’s taxi driver, Xola Tongo, has made a plea bargain with the state, admitting that he helped Dewani set up the murder, allegedly meant to look like a hijacking.

Tongo is serving 18 years in jail. The two alleged hit men were still awaiting trial.

The UK signed an extradition order for Dewani in September.
