Do what’s right: vote

2011-04-23 11:38

I’m disturbed by the negative feelings of many people on the topic of voting in the May 18 municipal polls. People are disillusioned and are saying: “We won’t vote. We have been abusing our votes for so long.”

My fellow Mzansi people, it is imperative that we all vote because if we abstain from doing that we will not change our dire situation.

My worry is that if we do not vote, in some wards and municipalities we will end up with councillors and mayors who will win office after only 10 votes have been counted.

My questions are: will that be doing justice to our liberation heroes? Will that be the true reflection of the population in those wards and municipalities? Clearly, no.

What we must do as responsible community members is hold our leaders to account and participate actively in all the projects that come to our areas.

If as a voter you are fed up with your previous leader or party, do what is right and vote for another person and party.

By abstaining you bring no solution to your problem.

Please people, let us go out on May 18 and vote out those who we don’t need.
