Downs donate school shoes to needy youngsters

2015-04-02 14:27

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane and his players have donated 60 pairs of school shoes to needy pupils in Soweto.

Mosimane and the players responded to a challenge by Jozi FM – Soweto Community Radio – to help the children.

Mosimane said he was honoured to have contributed towards helping the pupils and did not hesitate when he got the call to help.

“I am a stone’s throw away from the station and I know this is a worthy cause. I know it is not a lot but it will go a long way in helping those kids.”

Downs captain Alje Schut said the players decided to dig deep into their pockets as they felt the need to answer the challenge.

He said it was not a mission to get the players to contribute towards the purchasing of the shoes.

Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito said their aim was to make a difference in pupils’ lives.

“Some of us know what is like to be in that situation and, with winter around the corner, we decided to help out. It does not matter that we are a Tshwane side because we have supporters everywhere. We are happy with this gesture,” said Mosito.
