2011-01-07 10:21

The motoring industry has set the stage with a variety of new – and quite exciting – releases and upgrades.
Manufacturers are jostling to be first to reveal face-lifted models as well as spanking new ones. Here are a few to look forward to:

» Audi will be launching their smallest car yet with the A1 due out in February. With three distinct models, prices will range between R220 000 and R275 000. In March, Audi will reveal its A7 Sportback 3.0 T and 3.0 TDI models. There are no prices as yet, but the Sportback is set to compete against BMW’s 5 Series GT and the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

» BMW will be busy this year with a host of new models. The international media launch will take place in Cape Town for the new 6 Series convertible. Fans can expect the car to be available between March and April. Other exciting models include the new 1 Series M Coupe due in May, and the latest M5 later in November.

» US car giant Chevrolet will bring in a face-lifted model of their Captiva SUV in the second quarter of the year, as well as a new utility vehicle towards the end of the year. The concept Orlando has reached production and will land locally in spring.

» The Citroën DS3 took SA by storm last year, so the DS3 racing model due out next month already has many enthusiasts excited. Styling is a little more aggressive with black and orange highlights. The C4 and DS4 models are set to follow.

» Ford will unveil a fresh-faced Focus and Ranger towards the end of the year, so speedracers look out.

» Popular Japanese carmaker Honda will bring back the Ballade as well as introduce the Jazz IMA early this year, with a Civic four-door later on.

» On the Korean side, Kia has a tight schedule this year with several new products. These include the new Cerato five door, Picanto, Rio hatch and sedan models, K5 and the Ceed.

» Fashionistas and politicians will be in heaven when Land Rover launches its raunchy new Range Rover Evoque later this year.

» Lexus will upgrade the IS-F this month along with a face-lift for the entire IS range. The first LFA customer will receive their car in the middle of the year. The small allocation of Lexus’ bespoke supercar have already been sold and the remainder of deliveries are staggered over the car’s two-year production plan.

» Peugeot will launch its 5008 MPV as well as 5008 models, while the RCZ adds a diesel model to its line-up.

» Renualt will unveil the Fluence sedan and reintroduce the Kangoo and Trafic to the light-commercial vehicle market.

» Sleeper hit manufacturer Suzuki will upgrade the nippy Swift in March and will launch the Kizashi sedan in June.

» Volkswagen will have the racers excited with the introduction of the Golf VI R, the Scirocco R and the Polo GTI. For the more mature crowd there are the new Passat, Jetta and Polo sedans.
