Drunk, angry and all worked up: A night with the young lions

2011-08-30 08:17

City Press’ Cedric Mboyisa spent the greater part of last night and this morning with the young lions at Luthuli House, the ANC’s headquarters in downtown Joburg. Here are a selection of his tweets:

“Most of these Juju hooligans look drunk. Even one leaguer agrees: ‘These guys have been drinking all night’.

War zone ...“Rocks and bottles are flying all over. I’m now reporting from my cover near a pic of ANC stalwart Beyers Naude.”

“The youth league is openly taking on JZ leadership. The YL wants JZ and Mantashe gone, come Mangaung in 2012.”

“Overheard: ‘We fought for Zuma when he was accused of rape. He’s quick to forget. We’ll make this country ungovernable’.”

“Some of Juju supporters are still in school uniform.”

“ ‘Hands off our leader. Innocent until proven guilty,’ reads a poster bearing Malema’s face.”

“A poster with Blade Nzimande’s face is torched amid singing ‘Malema my president’. They say Blade is behind Juju’s woes.”

“Some senior league members, including a YL NEC member, remove Vavi’s name in an insulting placard and replace it with JZ’s.”

“One placard reads: ‘I will die for Julius’.”
