EFF members, cops scuffle at IEC

2014-03-12 14:55

A scuffle broke out between police and members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) outside the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) offices this afternoon as party leader, Julius Malema, and Dali Mpofu arrived there.

Malema, wearing a red EFF overall and beret, was at the IEC office to hand in the party’s candidate lists and deposit a cheque to contest the May 7 elections. Mpofu, in a black suit and red tie, also wore a red EFF beret.

Supporters sang and danced as a branded truck drove into the IEC parking lot in Centurion, south of Pretoria.

Malema and Mpofu walked into the IEC office carrying three large cardboard boxes.

Police backed off and EFF members continued to sing and dance.
