Eastern Cape residents wait for Zuma

2012-11-09 10:53

People started to arrive at the Kwezi Naledi Stadium in Lady Grey, in the Eastern Cape, this morning for a public rally to be addressed by President Jacob Zuma.

Local children were the first to arrive and were enjoying the morning off, playing on the grass and listening to musicians on an open-air stage.

Older locals started to take their seats in a small pavilion.

The small town was unusually busy, with a lot of police to be seen and the area around the municipal offices closed for official parking.

Local car-wash entrepreneurs seemed to be cashing in on the event, washing official cars under makeshift shade netting.

After addressing residents, Zuma is scheduled to deliver a lecture on the leadership and times of former president Thabo Mbeki in neighbouring Aliwal North.
