Eight injured in N3 accident

2010-04-02 08:45

Eight people were injured in an accident on the N3 in Ekurhuleni in

the early hours of Friday morning, metro police said.

The accident happened at 2.30am near the Rand Airport offramp when

a white Nissan truck collided with a green VW Golf and a grey Toyota Conquest,

Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said in a statement.

The driver of the Nissan then left the scene without waiting for

traffic officials.

The injured include two men in their 40’s who were found in the

Nissan, four people in their 30’s from the VW Golf and two men in their late

20’s in the Conquest. All were taken to local hospitals.

“Preliminary investigations shows that the Toyota Conquest slowed

down for slow moving traffic before the Nissan rammed it from the rear where it

lost control and collided head on with the approaching VW Golf,” said

Mokheseng.

The accident caused traffic to come to a standstill for two hours

while rescue workers cleared the scene.

Police have opened a case of reckless driving and failing to stop

at an accident scene.
