Elderly couple robbed

2011-10-14 14:25

An elderly man was assaulted when he and his wife were robbed in their Jeffrey’s Bay home, Eastern Cape police said today.

Lieutenant-Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the 73-year-old man opened the door for their tenant who was knocking around 10pm yesterday.

“The tenant was accompanied by two other suspects. The intruders repeatedly punched the elderly man in the face. He sustained injuries to his eye and has a swollen cheek.”

The three men tied up the couple and took about R700 from their safe, and bank cards. “They demanded and were given pin codes by the couple.”

The husband later managed to press the panic button using his elbow, and the intruders ran off. Police were searching for Izak Bosman, Desmond Hofmeyer and Sonette du Plessis in connection with the robbery
