Elderly woman killed at home

2011-07-28 12:33

A 75-year-old sports coach was killed at her home near Grahamstown, Eastern Cape Police said today.

A visitor found her lying over a basin in the yard around 2pm yesterday and called the police, spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said.

“The woman was still able to talk when the police arrived, but I cannot reveal what she said as this might jeopardise the investigation. She had a wound at the back of the head that seemed to have been inflicted by a hard object.”

A bicycle and a pair of running shoes were missing from the house.

Her name would not be released until her relatives had been informed.

The woman was rushed to a local hospital where she died on arrival. The motive for the murder was not known. No arrests had been made.
