Election results: 10 things worth knowing

Catch up on the election results that came in overnight.

» Overall, the ANC had 62.52% of the vote at 7.30am today. It achieved 65.90% in the 2009 election. The DA was at 21.95% (16.66% in 2009). The EFF is now in third place with 6.08%.

» The ANC is above 50% in Gauteng. At 6.30am today, the party had 53% of the votes. The DA had 31% and the EFF close to 10%.

» The ANC was in the lead in Joburg with about 49% of votes. The DA had 36%.

» The ANC was also in first position in Tshwane. At 7am, it had 51% of votes in the metro, with the DA at 32% and the EFF at almost 12%.

» In Buffalo City, the ANC had 67% of votes with the DA at close to 20%.

» In Midvaal, the DA was leading with about 49%. The ANC was not far behind, at 42%.

» In KwaZulu-Natal, the DA and IFP were still neck and neck in the race to become the official opposition in the province. At 2am, the DA had 12.16% of votes and the IFP, 11.24%.

» The ANC has won the Northern Cape (64.4%) and Mpumalanga (78.23%), where all votes have been counted.

» Five people voted ANC in Afrikaner town Orania, Northern Cape, and four voted for the EFF. A spokesperson said it was likely the result of residents of other towns and/or police officers/IEC officials voting there. The FF Plus got 224 votes.

» Agang SA was still to get enough votes for a seat in Parliament.
