Eskom threatens to turn off the lights

2013-03-13 08:45

Eskom plans to cut power to the Matlosana (Klerksdorp) municipality in North West unless an overdue payment of R91 million is made.

Cutting off the power tomorrow would be a last resort, Eskom spokeswoman Hilary Joffe told Beeld.

She said the municipality had been R91m in arrears for more than three months and said no agreement had yet been reached with the Matlosana municipality to avoid the cut.

According to Joffe, the total outstanding municipal debt, all of which was more than 30 days in arrears, owed to Eskom at the end of February amounted to R1.3 billion.
