‘Evil spirit’ terrorises hospital staff

2011-03-05 09:45

Staff and patients at the St Barnabas Hospital in Libode claim that they are being terrorised by an evil spirit, the Eastern Cape department of health said today.

“A patient who had a caesarian section said that during the night a female nurse arrived and took off all her bandages but said the patient was not allowed to look at her face,” spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said.

“The evil spirit also visited the high care unit and started switching on machines. When the nurses switched the machines off they came back on again, but no one was there,” he said.

Medical students working at the hospital complained to management three weeks ago that something was coming and knocking at their doors late at night but management did not take them seriously.

“A general worker at the hospital also said he came across a female nurse in full uniform with a handbag outside the hospital one night.

“When he asked where she was going she said ‘to work’ and the her image disappeared,” Kupelo said.

He said the events could no longer be ignored and the department had to find out what was going on at the hospital.

“This could become a problem as staff might refuse to work night shifts because of the evil spirit.

We are also worried that if emergency operations are happening late at night and machines go off,” Kupelo said.

The department would investigate the incidents and attempt to seek out the problem.
