Ex-Gautrain employee held over fraud

2014-11-13 08:42

A former employee of the Gautrain Management Agency was arrested on a string of charges including fraud, the Hawks said.

Captain Paul Ramaloko said the Hawks and the management agency arrested a 30-year-old man at his home in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, early yesterday.

He was arrested in connection with charges of fraud, corruption and contravention of the Electronic Communication and Transactions Act.

“His employment contract with the agency was suspended two weeks ago after the agency’s internal investigation revealed his suspected involvement in what would have been a loss of millions by the agency.”

The man is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court today.

Ramaloko said more arrests were possible .

Gauteng transport MEC Ismail Vadi welcomed the arrest.

“A possible threat to the Gautrain Management Agency’s computer systems was detected during a routine audit and the Hawks were duly notified ... As a result of the early detection the systems were not compromised,” he said.
