Exercises that you can do in the comfort of your own home.

  • Start with warm-up routines

    such as doing star jumps and clapping your hands at the same time;

  • Stretch your muscles by

    touching your toes with your legs straight and held together. Then stand up

    straight, arch your back and hold your hands outstretched;

  • If your home has a flight of

    stairs, use them like the electronic step at the gym. The bottom stair can be

    used for an impromptu dance/step class;

  • If you don’t have stairs,

    jog around the yard at least five times, depending on how big the space is. You

    can also jump rope to kick-start your cardio session;

  • For muscles, fill two 1.5

    litres squeeze bottles with sand, soil or water and use them as dumb bells. Lift

    them up and down parallel to your shoulders to work out the top. Move them out

    sideways with your hands outstretched and pull them back towards your chest to

    work your torso;

  • Your biceps can also be

    stimulated by alternating the bottles in different arms at a 90 degree angle

    from your chest;

  • Do lunges while pushing the

    dumb bells up and down to exercise your buttocks and inner thighs;

  • For definition, sit on a

    four-legged chair or an ottoman at 90 degrees with your legs together and your

    back straight. With your feet firmly on the ground, put your hands as close to

    your knees as possible still maintaining posture. Then, lean back as far as you

    can to flex your stomach muscles. Repeat the set always tightening your

    core;

  • For love handles, use a

    solid couch to lean vertically from the back towards the inside moving side to

    side; and

  • Nothing beats good old

    sit-ups and push ups for a toning routine. Lie on the floor and gently lift your

    head to shoulder level repeatedly with your feet grounded.
