Just like a fortnight ago when thousands of South Africans welcomed Orlando Pirates home from their exploits in Tunisia, a number of football followers are expected to gather at OR Tambo International Airport to bid the Buccaneers farewell this evening.

Pirates leave for Cairo, Egypt, for the second leg of the CAF African Champions League final against Al Ahly at the Arab Contractors Stadium on Sunday evening.

The PSL has urged supporters to come in their numbers for a proper send-off and to wish the team luck.

The league wants to create the same atmosphere as when the team returned from Tunisia after qualifying for the final, when supporters packed the arrival hall of the airport.

Pirates will travel without Andile Jali and Happy Jele, both of whom are suspended for the second leg after picking up bookings in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Orlando Stadium.

But coach Roger de Sá was confident they would cope without the duo. He said they would have able replacements in the absence of the two players.

Pirates need a clear victory, or at least a high-scoring draw, to lift the trophy. A 1-1 draw will take the game to extra time.

Supporters have been advised to be at the airport at 7.30pm.
