Fianceé received calls after slain singer’s disappearance

2010-07-13 13:48

The fianceé of a KwaZulu-Natal singer who was found dead this

morning received numerous calls from a woman who claimed to know the whereabouts

of the singer.

Dolly Ramabele said: “I received numerous calls from a woman who

claimed she knew what happened to him. She hid her number.”

The body of Sabelo Ngcamu (39), a maskandi singer from Dassenhoek,

outside Durban, was found in a bush near a river in Marrianridge, where police

were led by a man, who is the alleged killer.

He had disappeared on July 5 when his group, the SMS, was due to

perform at a World Cup fanpark in Durban, Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge

said.

Ramabele said Ngcamu disappeared in Dassenhoek after he had

accompanied her to catch a taxi to Durban.

He was then planning to rehearse for

the fan park performance, she said.

Ngcamu was reported missing on July 8. The matter was assigned to

the Organised Crime Unit.

Mdunge said the alleged killer had been intensively questioned by

police, and that the gun allegedly used to kill Ngcamu was recovered from him.

The man was expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court on

Thursday.

Distraught Ramabele described Ngcamu as a peaceful person who had

no friends.
