First ODI: Australia sets Proteas 301 to win

2014-11-14 11:17

Australia have set South Africa a target of 301 in the series-opening limited-overs cricket international today at the Waca Stadium in Perth.

Australia finished their innings on 300-8 (George Bailey 70, David Warner 46, Aaron Finch 35; Vernon Philander 4-45, Dale Steyn 2-62).

Australia will resume after lunch without their captain Michael Clarke, who reinjured his hamstring during a brief stint at the crease.

The 33-year-old is being assessed, his doctor Peter Brukner said.

“He will have a scan tomorrow and take no further part in the match.”

Clarke made just 11 from 20 balls before being caught behind when he gloved an attempted pull shot to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock from the bowling of Steyn.

The setback places him in doubt for the remainder of the five-match one-day international series.
