Four shot dead in rural KZN

2010-10-28 09:34

Four people, including a six-month-old baby, were found dead in a remote homestead outside Mariannhill, KwaZulu-Natal, police said today.

Lieutenant Colonel Jay Naicker said people living in the vicinity said they heard people arguing around 1am and then they heard gunshots.

“Because it is in a rural area and deep down in the valley, they couldn’t pinpoint the area,” said Naicker.
“It was only daylight when they found the bodies.”

Police from Mariannhill were called at 5am.

The bodies of three adults in their 30s – two men and one woman – and the baby girl were found at a place called Tshilinyama.

It is believed they are from the same family.

Forensic investigators were working through the crime scene and so far police could not tell what triggered the killings.

However, there was no link between this incident and the six people murdered at Shongweni on Monday night.

As a result of that shooting, police formed a task team to fight crime in Pinetown and surrounding areas.
