The ANC's Free State Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) will not be allowed to attend the party's 53rd elective conference in Mangaung.

The party's National Executive Committee (NEC) has decided to replace the PEC, whose election was declared unlawful by the Constitutional Court on Friday, with an interim Provincial Task Team (PTT) which has three months to hold a new provincial conference.

The PTT will be chaired by Sisi Ntombela and consist of 20 members, only one of whom, Ace Magashule, was a member of the illegitimate PEC.

At a briefing after the marathon NEC meeting tonight, which ran way over the three hours allocated for it, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said Magashule would be able to attend the conference as he was a directly elected member of the ANC NEC.

ANC policy head Jeff Radebe said the ANC would abide by the decision of the Constitutional Court.

Mantashe said the Free State's delegates from branches and other structures would not be affected by the decision.
