Friends & Friction: Don’t forget the good things

2014-08-01 13:45

I was following a Muslim guy through the airport security gates when the alarm went off. The security guard asked him to come through again.

The gentleman looked at me, smiled and said: “I can’t wait to see you go through. That machine is going to scream ‘corrupt’.”

As the bumper sticker says?–?the black man is always guilty.

Last week, a former director-general told me how he used to be afraid of the Scorpions.

When he saw their cars, he thought: “What have I done now? Are they coming for me?”

Poor black people. Always guilty. Always stupid, as one caller said on a radio station when he accused black people of being stupid for voting the ANC into power again.

Stupid? Have you been following events in the Middle East lately? Let’s do the sums.

Three Israeli teens were abducted and killed. A Palestinian teen is killed as revenge. The Palestinians launch rockets into Israel, most are blocked by the Israeli Iron Dome. One Israeli is killed and another injured. Israel fires back. About 250 Palestinians are killed.

The rockets don’t stop and the Iron Dome keeps blocking them. Then the Israeli ground attack begins. More than 700 Palestinians and more than 30 Israeli soldiers are killed.

It’s as if the four dead teens are going to come back and say: “Hi mom, heaven isn’t as good as they say. We’re back.” But you never know in the Holy Land, 2?000 years ago, a man did rise from the dead.

They’re all crazy over there. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 170?000 Muslims have died at the hands of other Muslims in the past three years, yet the world is more incensed with Jews killing Palestinians.

Is there something we don’t know?–? are bullets with Hebrew inscriptions deadlier? Stop the wars!

On the subject of stereotypes, I hope Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not like his predecessor, money-idolising Ehud Olmert.

Writing up the embezzlement charges and investigations against Olmert will take up this whole column. He preferred his bribes in cash and was convicted for taking money from developers in a country where settlements cause wars.

That’s the difference between black and white criminals. Blacks steal small things. White people steal countries. Black execs misuse credit cards. White people steal pension funds.

I am sick of you black people, sick of you.

In the past 15 years or so, you have allowed a systematic propaganda, which dictates that you hate yourselves and your country, to take root. Our democracy is more transparent than a petticoat, yet it is dubbed an incorrigible kleptocracy.

Our institutions are more stifling than a corset, yet daily we are told how ugly we are. When we point out corruption in First World countries, apologists say overseas criminals like

Olmert do get convicted over there, but not here. Well, Tony Yengeni and Allan Boesak did.

In this country, we have a robust justice system that protects the “weakest and the worst among us”. It protects the white farmers who “stole” the land and the farm labourers who work on it.

This is a model country; don’t destroy it by focusing only on its faults. We might not be better than other nations, but we are not worse either.
