Fuel price to go up on Wednesday

The retail price of petrol will increase by at least 28 cents a litre on Wednesday.

A litre of petrol 95 ULP (unleaded petrol) in Gauteng would now cost R8.73.

Petrol 93 ULP & LRP (lead-replacement petrol) in Gauteng would cost R8.58 a litre.

The retail price of petrol 93 ULP and LRP would increase by 29 cents a litre.

Petrol 95 ULP & LRP would increase by 28 cents a litre.

The price of diesel with a 0.05% and 0.005% sulphur content would increase by 23 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin would increase by 21 cents a litre.

The single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin would increase by 29 cents a litre.

The energy department said during the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate strengthened during the review period, November 26 to December 30, 2010.

It was R6.90 for the period under review compared with R6.98 during the previous period.

This played a role in determining the revised fuel price.
