General out of today’s key match

2010-09-26 14:25

Orlando Pirates’ star mid-fielder, Teko “The General” Modise, has

been dropped from the team that will play Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semifinal

second-leg clash at FNB Stadium this afternoon.

After the alleged intervention by Pirates’ management saw Modise

force his way back into the team against Chiefs two weeks ago, when coach Rudi

Krol had left him out of his initial team plan, the two-time PSL Footballer of

the Year will now have to watch from the stands or on TV. And unless Pirates’

management intervenes again, Modise will sit out the crucial Soweto

Derby.

Several sources, including a highly placed Bucs official, told City

Press that Krol had dropped Modise, who has shown a dip in form recently.

Apparently Modise was among the players who did not train on

Thursday and Friday with 18 of their teammates who made the cut for the Chiefs

clash.

Yesterday a source confirmed that Modise was not among the playing

contingent which trooped into the pre-derby camp.

“We are in a bus on our way to training and I can confirm that he

is not part of the team,” said one of the players.

However, Modise’s business manager, Jazzman Mahlakgane, said his

client had asked for time off to help with arrangements for the funeral of his

father-in-law.

The funeral was yesterday.

Once a darling of the Ghosts, Modise’s recent performances led to

him being haunted by his own club’s supporters, who have been booed him in the

past few games.
