Durban’s Florida Road resembled a street bash when the Metro FM Music Awards hosted its prelude to the main event – the Metro FM Music Awards pre-party – at Club Boulevard last night.

Parking was problematic and so was gaining entry to the venue thanks to the no-nonsense attitude of bouncers.

Celebrity publicist and event organiser Linda Moeketsi had to rescue the City Press team twice from the clutches of security personnel at the SABC executive area entrance.

The two dance floors were filled to the brim but the bottom floor – where commercial house played – was so full it was difficult to move and a tad sweaty.

On the top floor, Glen Lewis played deep house and the likes of Generations actress Xoli Zondi and presenter Aaron Moloisi let loose.

“I can’t dance to save my life,” Zondi said when teased about her dance moves (by the way, she can dance).

Even the slight drizzle could not chase away guests seated on the leather couches on the deck, enjoying drinks while getting lost in the music.

The kwaito royalty was represented by Arthur Mafokate, who kept things simple, taking pictures and shaking hands.

However, no one got a chance to take pictures of Jacob Zuma’s nephew, Khulubuse Zuma, who was whisked into what was called the “SABC executive room” – taking pictures of the businessman was strictly prohibited.

The likes of DJ Merlon, Pantsula, Metro FM staffers DJ Sbu, the duo of Spectacular and Naves, Naked DJ, Lulo Café made the dance floor come alive until the wee hours of the morning.
