Gigaba wants audit into SA Express

2012-07-19 09:22

Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba has asked the Auditor-General to help reconstruct SA Express’ financials.

“Reports come and you want to act and then you realise that you don’t have sufficient information to act ... what we want to know actually is what happened to the financials,” he was quoted as saying in financial daily Business Day.

Yesterday, Gigaba said he had approached the Auditor-General’s office for help with “reconstructing the airlines financials”.

SA Express was forced to withdraw its financial statements for the past year for reportedly being “inaccurate” and “unreliable”.

One of the issues was a Vat amount of R32 million.

SA Express has told Parliament this amount may not be fully recoverable from the SA Revenue Service.

SA Express chairperson Lillian Boyle said she was delighted to hear that the Auditor-General would assist in the finalisation of its accounts.

“At least now there may be some action. The process has reached a long logjam,” said Boyle
