Girl (11) the latest victim of brutal Delft attacks

2014-02-10 10:45

Another girl has become the victim of violent crime in Delft, Cape Town.

The body of 11-year-old Siphokuhle Flephu was found on a bed at a Delft South home, the Cape Times reported today. It is thought Siphokuhle was also raped.

The police’s André Traut said a 26-year-old man was found on the scene and assaulted by residents. He was taken in for questioning.

He claimed he had no knowledge of the girl’s murder and had given the shack’s key to an unknown male.

Siphokuhle’s aunt, Sithiwe, said a resident’s boyfriend, who was staying in the shack, had approached her niece and asked her to buy cigarettes. It is not known what happened next, but Siphokuhle disappeared and the shack in which the man was present had been locked.

The man who had been assaulted was a friend of the boyfriend.

In the past month, at least two other girls have been brutally attacked in the area. On January 19, a nine-year-old girl was raped, set alight and left to die in a field near the R300. But she survived and is being treated in the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.

A week earlier, a six-year-old girl was raped in a communal toilet in the area.
