Goalless draw against Esperance enough for Pirates

2013-10-05 21:27

Orlando Pirates were held to a goalless draw by Esperance of Tunisia but the result is not all gloom for the Buccaneers with a return leg to play in the CAF Champions League semifinals.

Coach Roger de Sa said his side was content with the outcome given the fact that they didn’t concede at Orlando Stadium as that would have been detrimental to their bid for a final berth in Africa’s premier club competition.

Pirates, who are still reeling from a loss in the MTN8 Cup final against Platinum Stars last weekend, will meet Esperance in the second leg in Tunis on October 19.

De Sa said his side was content with the goalless scoreline even though Pirates needed to take some advantage to the return clash.

He lamented the missed opportunities, particularly Sifiso Myeni’s wasted header when the midfielder could have directed the ball into the net after connected Daine Klate’s cross midway in the opening half.

Pirates will face Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Telkom Knockout on Tuesday before their trek north.
