Gold One suspends wildcat strikers

2012-10-04 11:30

Around 1 400 wildcat strikers at Gold One’s Cooke 4 shaft in Ezulwini on the West Rand have been suspended, the company has said.

“A suspension notice has been served. It was communicated via bulk SMS, (at) hostels, and to a group gathered outside the mine gates,” company spokesman Grant Stuart said today.

He said the suspension notice meant workers who did not stay in hostels were locked out and mine operations remained shut.

Police earlier dispersed a group of workers who had earlier gathered at the mine gates, Stuart said.

On Friday, disciplinary hearings would be held for all workers who had been on strike since Monday.

“We have invited them to make representations.” Stuart said a possible outcome of the hearings was dismissals.
