Goosey hoping for tiger reunion

2010-07-28 07:50

Goosey Fernandes was hoping that another sighting of his beloved Tiger Panjo this morning may finally lead to a reunion.

Fernandes of the woman who phoned to say she had seen him cross the road in front of her while on her way to work: “She said: ‘what the hell is this?’”

“We are going to go there and see,” he said.

Panjo’s walkabout after he somehow freed himself from Fernandes’ bakkie has captured the imagination of young and old locally and internationally.

News broke yesterday that the hand-reared tiger had escaped from the back of Fernandes’ bakkie while they were travelling near Delmas.

A tearful Fernandes hired air search teams hoping to find Panjo, whose likeness has even been painted on his bakkie.

The latest sighting was in an area near Witbank.

“The South African public has been so helpful,” said Fernandes, “I’m going to let everybody know if I find my cat.”
